i can feel your smile.

just a few quick shots today because i've been super lazy about posting. i'm really trying to get into the habit of it again, but i guess it's just a gradual thing for me right now.

anyway, here's my pup and some clothes!

hat, urban outfitters / shirt, handmade / skirt, macy's / boots (not pictured) jeffrey campbell coltranes

i was really happy to have found this skirt for a fraction of the cost these things usually are. i tried a sort of similar skirt at free people in boston that sat funny on my body-- i think there was an excess of fabric near the bottom that made me look like a horse-- and was so happy to stumble upon this one a few weeks later! normally, waterfall skirts are a bit weird for me and make me feel short, but this one's good stuff.

actually, this whole outfit is kind of a free people knock-off. the tee was patterned off something i saw on sale from them for more than i wanted to pay, so i just made my own!

i had to stand in the kiddie pool to get nova in.. i used to practice this when he was a puppy by stepping into a box and getting out, and then he'd copy me. i love this dog, and i realized that i want to try to work with animals more, so i'm going to submit a volunteer application to the humane society soon!

bridges.

shirt, urban / shorts, etsy / socks, gift / shoes, h&m

i was going to finish some idle drawings this morning and post them, but i realized i've been using everyone else's watercolors and colored pencils, and they're all sleeping, and all i have is acrylic paints, charcoal, and ink. so i'll have to wait for another entry for that!

also, themed post coming up! just leaving you with some pictures of my rainy-day-stay-inside-and-drink-tea-and-get-over-being-sick-so-i-can-get-done-with-finals-projects-as-soon-and-as-well-as-possible outfit. over-the-knee socks are my best friend in this weather.

enjoy the cutesy harp goodness,

a stirring.

this past week, i looked through photography books in the campus library to try to find something that interested me, to find some inspiration outside the internet, for a class assignment. i thought i was looking for a fashion photographer by definition-- patrick demarchelier, annie leibovitz, mario testino-- but i came across a book called tribe, a book of photographs by hibiki kobayashi, that had image upon image of different people from different disappearing tribes. there was more than an amazing emotional connection through the eyes of the subjects, there was also a quality to the images that i likened to an editorial or beauty shot from a glossy magazine. there were piercings and gauges, makeup and clothes, that i might expect to see inspiring a vogue-like shoot on grunge-punk chic or the newest "tribal" look for summer. i liked it.

and that's when i got a little bit irritated and confused, and i didn't know what to do, because instead of photographing these people in their homes, this photographer chose to place them in front of a white background. like a glamour shoot.

the last picture i really paid attention to was a photograph of a young girl with a large hoop in her nose and a bindi on her forehead, wearing a floral print dress. i really could have just described half of the hipster kids in existence. but is that wrong? i've heard that it's acceptable to wear a bindi if you receive one from a hindi woman, i've heard that it's never acceptable to wear one unless you're hindi, and i've heard that if it makes you feel beautiful, you should wear one, because it's a beauty piece just as as well as it's said to protect against bad luck and many other things.

the same goes for all the hype that surrounds images like thisthisthis... the list goes on. it seems like a bunch of overprivileged kids outside of their own culture, maybe even sexualizing other cultures, being offensive.

i even get nervous when people ask me about my religious inclinations every time i wear a circle scarf with the back part as a hood, since it looks like a hijab. where is the line, anyway?

AND, even if there is a line, should it be as heavy as most set it to be? i understand things like urban outfitters' stumble in naming some undergarments "navajo print," since that's actually a specific tribe of native americans (whoops), and i don't really like using "tribal print," either, but when can people borrow from other people for inspiration? when is it respect and when is it just a matter of people not being able to share?

i'm not even sure where i stand on this topic, in the end. i'm just starting my interest.

till next time,

fall preview.

first outfit: bowler hat, ebay / shirt, urban outfitters (ss04) / jacket, gap / shorts, etsy / creepers, demonia

second outfit: mesh button-down, american apparel / sweater, mother's / pendant, atomickatz vintage / skirt, american apparel, shoes, h&m

third outfit: beanie, thrift / flannel, ragstock / tank, obey (ss08) / shorts, urban outfitters / boots, doc martens

while it's too warm in the midwest u.s. to be wearing all this, i decided to throw these clothing sets together for school this fall. i'll just add tights for the chilly moments, and throw them in my school bag-- a gifted dark brown messenger-- if it warms up.

i love dressing for fall as everything has to be in layers. even my winter will be this way, living in san francisco, except i might have to throw a heavy coat on over everything. i hope i have more days where i don't have to do that, as i hate to cover up whatever i've selected for the day.

anyway, this is about as Grunge as i get. i've seen so many people debate the definition of grunge style online, and literally, i'd probably say that it means unintentionally looking like kurt cobain and smelling up something awful, but i firmly believe that i can mix in some nineties flair to my wardrobe and still... wash my clothes.

also, i promise i will get that give-away up by the end of this week! expect sunnies and something simply prada.

enjoy!

nuevos.

just the latest buys. i've made my last couple of purchases before i keep all of my money for san francisco!

i've been listening to the decemberists song on this post over and over again-- being quite ill, i'm in the mood for quieter music, and this is about as loud and raucous as it gets for now. i'm just getting to posting pictures from the past week, in fact; i've had severe bouts of anxiety that i'm pretty sure are related to leaving for school. so for now, it's resting time.

all for today,

ebay thingy things.

hey, folks! so my ebay store, chickadee's closet, is going strong, which is so helpful for all the saving i'm trying to do for school! it's only been a week and people have already been bidding on my clothing, so i'm really happy about it. i've decided i'm going to try to put new items up every week, so check back every weekend for new garments and accessories!

i've just added four new items, although i'm going through a process with ebay so i can list more items at once. hopefully it works!

until next time, here are some outfits out of what i'm selling.
