midas talons.

i haven't posted in a bit, have i?

i've been keeping my nails long all summer, which is bad for playing piano and texting but good for looking terrifying and amazing and also good for back scratches.

i decided to update my look a little bit with some color. i love changing my nail or hair color; i think it adds an interesting challenge to putting a look together, and it adds depth to whatever i come up with. i decided on a gold metallic polish by hard candy and added a bit of extra sparkle on the ends with pure ice's "endless fortune" polish. i burned a little patchouli incense and listened to good music late at night, and it was wonderfully relaxing.

after setting the atmosphere, i painted a base coat, then two thin coats of hard candy polish, and i mixed the sparkles near the end. i then painted a top coat and proceeded to be more successful than i've ever been at not smudging the finished product! i think relaxing into the process helps.

a great thing about the gold color is that i don't wear it often, so putting it on my nails makes me reevaluate jewelry-- i love to mix golds, silvers, and bronzes, and this inspired me to do so today. i put one silver midi ring on my other hand.

it's strange how much more prepared i feel for the day with painted nails. it's definitely worth it to treat myself.

coyote poetry and shooting with alacrity photography!

i spent my evening eating raspberry-and-chocolate soy ice cream on the main downtown drag before meeting up with the duo that is alacrity photography! also, i got to listen to a super swell poem written by a friend. the perks of sitting outside of a coffee shop in this weather are great.

oh, and i got to do a thing with my new hair, courtesy of my boyfriend's sister, kendra, who is endlessly  creative and talented with hair and makeup.

here are some shots from today!

and a last note--

as a blog that doesn't focus as much on sociopolitical issues, i don't think i'm able to come up with the proper words... but as a human who is investing a lot of time to learn and talk about these issues, i do think i need to express how much anger i feel over recent events regarding trayvon martin. my heart aches for the injustice in tonight's news. there is so much we have to stand up for.

till next time.

it isn't pretty.

for ages, there have been complaints circulating the blogosphere about the content of personal fashion blogs. what exactly goes into them and what people pick out of them to support is so controversial. i keep reading that the most successful bloggers are the "typically pretty," the "ones with long hair," the "professional pictures," etc.

it might be that many current cultures register certain bloggers as models and confuse the two, but i think the personal fashion blog is a completely different world from the editorial magazine. i don't think it's necessary to pick at the bones and say that the two can't be mixed, like i've heard before, but i do believe that there should be a certain amount of tangibility to the personal fashion blog. i like pictures that are taken by the blogger, or when the blogger actually writes something, over a bunch of photos taken by someone else with few or no words. that's why blogs like the man repeller or the fashion pirate are so wonderful-- there's a personality to each of them, and while they put current trends and opinions out there, they aren't trend victims (let's say, a pair of litas for every post, baroque print, galaxy print, and SO MANY CROSS NECKLACES... but those are just my current bothers).

when someone told me my pictures looked like a certain brand's catalogue, i was caught between feeling flattered and offended: to me, it meant i had a professional potential, but i was also afraid i had some glossy, untouchable look. but then i realized, is the glossy thing a negative point? am i really so pretentious that i require a certain style of picture to pass as a "real" blogger? i forever have an evolving look, and my drawing is also always moving forward, so why shouldn't i have evolving abilities in my photography?

anyway, i hope my photography is gradually evolving to a better state. i'm trying to learn how to accept the change.

here are some photos from this morning. it's the new semester, and i have my first class this evening, so i obviously had to take First Day Photos. not your typical kindergarten ones. i'm happier than i look, i promise!

i bought this romper for peanuts at wasteland in the haight the other day. someone tye-dyed a diane von furstenburg jumpsuit and cut the legs off, and the result is just so weird it's gorgeous in my eyes. with the bottoms cuffed just so, it fits me perfectly. also, i'm wearing a lot more eye makeup now (meaning i'm wearing makeup) because my hair is so light i look like a ghost otherwise. a hair change is on the way, though, coming in the mail!

time waster / coffee drinker / pretender / dreamer

i'm wearing my summer clothes inside as loungewear because, as nice as the snow is, i'm wishing for some warmer weather again. i guess it's pretty good timing that i'm going back to california in just a few days! i'm already missing the midwest, so i'm enjoying it in abundance today with my boyfriend by going for a long nature walk until we freeze, hopefully followed by some cozy atmosphere at a thai food restaurant downtown.

i should probably actually get dressed soon-- first hiking clothes and then something more dressy-- but for another hour, i'll stick to my shorts and crop top, drinkin' my coffee as always.

i've been having a lot of good conversations with people, so i want to post something a little more substantial soon. stay tuned!

creepin' weird.

bow, american apparel / tank, t.j. maxx / bullet belt, etsy / leggings, black milk clothing / creepers, gift

just kidding, so i have these shots left to post before i go home for a bit. the cemetery where i took these photos is a strange one for me. i had an assignment for my old photography class where i had to find a familiar and an unfamiliar landscape, and i couldn't decide if this cemetery was familiar or unfamiliar to me: it reminds me of a place near my house.. turned californian. there are all the gravestones and the mausoleums, but they're spiked with palm trees. so it's my familiar-unfamiliar island in the middle of a totally foreign land.

the belt i'm wearing is a piece that's been sitting around my dorm the entire year, and a friend of mine just helped me learn how to use it. the concept is so weird; i thought i was going to mess it up by breaking a part of it off, which was, i guess, the thing to do to fix it. i figured out a way to just step in and out of it, though, so i can always leave it closed up and not have to worry about snapping pieces on and off.

also, i love that this tank looks like gold foil, but it isn't so over-the-top that i can only use it around new year's. it's versatile. and, of course, as long as i keep my top pretty simple, i can wear my crazy-sistine-chapel-ceiling-print leggings from black milk. always the most comfortable bottoms-- i'm planning on wearing them on the plane ride back to the midwest with my trusty docs. i adore these creepers, but my docs practically gravitate towards my feet for flights. immediate badassery for those hours in the sky.

but enough for now! more later,
