candylash.

so sorry for the half-month hiatus! i've been wrapped up in a lot of different events. lately, things at school haven't been going great-- school itself was all right, but life was getting in the way, so i'm currently at home and will be for a bit of time, taking a break.

i think a lot of people misunderstand what's going on, so at the bottom of it all, i feel it's important for me to say that i'm trying to rebuild my health, mental and otherwise. past that, it really isn't anyone's business except that i'm taking care of myself right now!

anyway, here are some shots from the past couple of weeks and a few of my outfit from earlier today. snow is still on the ground here, so i envy those in the bay area right now. it was seventy-five fahrenheit there the past day! i guess my current style is mainly what i'd be wearing if i were still in california. black, to match my mood and obviously my soul, with my new favorite offensive hat. watch out, thirteen-year-old goths. i'm a fake-smiling, sulking mess of quarter-life crisis just waiting to stomp all over your favorite hot topic tee, your cross necklaces, and your black lipstick with my false eyelashes and dangerously spiky disco creepers holding on till the very end.

i recently replaced a couple of things in my wardrobe with new staples in my everyday get-up: my wallet and my septum ring. metallic shine with one, pitch black with the other. i had to show them off here. also, i think i should explain how i've started to morph away from the black-and-white theme before i've even really photographed it for a style post. there are parts of me that are always into black and white, but i'm integrating some curious candy-raver clothes that are making little blips of my wardrobe look like bubble yum aliens are taking over my shopping sprees.

the tumblr hipster community would just eat these pieces up, eh?

i'm just letting my imagination run a little bit to try and save myself from that feeling that nothing is coming of my life and that i'll never achieve anything. good ol' thoughts like this have been invading my mindspace, and i'm totally ready to be rid of it. i'm ready to go and laugh some and sleep enough and live a life where i'm not obsessed with what's hurt me for years of my life!

on a brighter note, i'm modeling for my boyfriend's sister tomorrow! it's going to be an all-day thing, and i'm scared and excited. i'll hopefully post more about that soon.

till next time!

it isn't pretty.

for ages, there have been complaints circulating the blogosphere about the content of personal fashion blogs. what exactly goes into them and what people pick out of them to support is so controversial. i keep reading that the most successful bloggers are the "typically pretty," the "ones with long hair," the "professional pictures," etc.

it might be that many current cultures register certain bloggers as models and confuse the two, but i think the personal fashion blog is a completely different world from the editorial magazine. i don't think it's necessary to pick at the bones and say that the two can't be mixed, like i've heard before, but i do believe that there should be a certain amount of tangibility to the personal fashion blog. i like pictures that are taken by the blogger, or when the blogger actually writes something, over a bunch of photos taken by someone else with few or no words. that's why blogs like the man repeller or the fashion pirate are so wonderful-- there's a personality to each of them, and while they put current trends and opinions out there, they aren't trend victims (let's say, a pair of litas for every post, baroque print, galaxy print, and SO MANY CROSS NECKLACES... but those are just my current bothers).

when someone told me my pictures looked like a certain brand's catalogue, i was caught between feeling flattered and offended: to me, it meant i had a professional potential, but i was also afraid i had some glossy, untouchable look. but then i realized, is the glossy thing a negative point? am i really so pretentious that i require a certain style of picture to pass as a "real" blogger? i forever have an evolving look, and my drawing is also always moving forward, so why shouldn't i have evolving abilities in my photography?

anyway, i hope my photography is gradually evolving to a better state. i'm trying to learn how to accept the change.

here are some photos from this morning. it's the new semester, and i have my first class this evening, so i obviously had to take First Day Photos. not your typical kindergarten ones. i'm happier than i look, i promise!

i bought this romper for peanuts at wasteland in the haight the other day. someone tye-dyed a diane von furstenburg jumpsuit and cut the legs off, and the result is just so weird it's gorgeous in my eyes. with the bottoms cuffed just so, it fits me perfectly. also, i'm wearing a lot more eye makeup now (meaning i'm wearing makeup) because my hair is so light i look like a ghost otherwise. a hair change is on the way, though, coming in the mail!

labyrinth.

happy new year's, everyone!

gave myself a manicure; that's about as far as i get for new year's changes-- i make resolutions all the time, and i don't need a turned year to start them.

not much to share right now except that i've had a wonderful past few days and i hope you have, too!
i'm going on a short trip tomorrow, and when i come back, i want to start posting more regularly again, so you should see more posts soon!

return of the kittens.

i knew i took this kitten scarf to school for a reason. i have a collar i got from wasteland, and i paired it with a hand-cut muscle tank i'm planning to paint... eventually. the plain white tee look happened to work really well, though, with the light print of the scarf, so i threw the scarf on my head and it worked! and what better to add to that than a badass biker boot? i lightened it up with a peacock-tone american apparel skirt, and shabam, there was my outfit. my roommate quickly took these shots for me around the dorm halls because she's a doll. enjoy!

i've just been sketching the past couple of days. i'm waiting for something good. i might have the opportunity to do some portraiture soon, which i'm really looking forward to, but i have yet to set the date, so i'll have to see on that. in the meantime, i'm still busy with that art history paper (it's only been a couple of days, people), so just keep checking back!

all for now,
