it isn't pretty.

for ages, there have been complaints circulating the blogosphere about the content of personal fashion blogs. what exactly goes into them and what people pick out of them to support is so controversial. i keep reading that the most successful bloggers are the "typically pretty," the "ones with long hair," the "professional pictures," etc.

it might be that many current cultures register certain bloggers as models and confuse the two, but i think the personal fashion blog is a completely different world from the editorial magazine. i don't think it's necessary to pick at the bones and say that the two can't be mixed, like i've heard before, but i do believe that there should be a certain amount of tangibility to the personal fashion blog. i like pictures that are taken by the blogger, or when the blogger actually writes something, over a bunch of photos taken by someone else with few or no words. that's why blogs like the man repeller or the fashion pirate are so wonderful-- there's a personality to each of them, and while they put current trends and opinions out there, they aren't trend victims (let's say, a pair of litas for every post, baroque print, galaxy print, and SO MANY CROSS NECKLACES... but those are just my current bothers).

when someone told me my pictures looked like a certain brand's catalogue, i was caught between feeling flattered and offended: to me, it meant i had a professional potential, but i was also afraid i had some glossy, untouchable look. but then i realized, is the glossy thing a negative point? am i really so pretentious that i require a certain style of picture to pass as a "real" blogger? i forever have an evolving look, and my drawing is also always moving forward, so why shouldn't i have evolving abilities in my photography?

anyway, i hope my photography is gradually evolving to a better state. i'm trying to learn how to accept the change.

here are some photos from this morning. it's the new semester, and i have my first class this evening, so i obviously had to take First Day Photos. not your typical kindergarten ones. i'm happier than i look, i promise!

i bought this romper for peanuts at wasteland in the haight the other day. someone tye-dyed a diane von furstenburg jumpsuit and cut the legs off, and the result is just so weird it's gorgeous in my eyes. with the bottoms cuffed just so, it fits me perfectly. also, i'm wearing a lot more eye makeup now (meaning i'm wearing makeup) because my hair is so light i look like a ghost otherwise. a hair change is on the way, though, coming in the mail!

art school beginnings.

the internet is terrible right now,
and i'll write a more constructed entry later.

for now, picture entry!
the music at the end is just a little something i found recently thanks to a dorm friend.

PANTHER.

i've been looking for ways to integrate myself into the student life of my school before it's really started, so what better to begin with than a mini shoot? i pulled together a couple of new friends, amy and yudie, and took some pictures. prancing around in trees with the light falling over our faces made us look catlike and bizarre, which i loved, hence the title of this post. we were wild children.

i have to run now to get ready for my first day of real class-- instead of the week of orientation i just tackled-- but i'll post again soon!

life things.

i'm feeling frustrated, losing touch with people i once had creative connections with.
i can't wait to go to school for the opportunity to be constantly connected with artistically-minded people. i've been speaking with incoming freshmen, and it excites me to know i'll get the chance to be with those who are driven towards goals like mine and who have the time and acceptance to actually follow through with new ideas and collaborations.

i'm just really, really frustrated with where i'm living in right now because i feel as though i can't channel any sparks of creativity very well. i feel stuck.

i feel stuck.

i've been drawing by myself a lot, spending my time feeling lonely, so i'll try to post the results sometime soon. i also have a few thoughts for picture sets i want to make, but that depends on how successful i can be in finding other people who want to work with me. i really want to work on a project for a freshman opening art show at school this fall, but again, it all depends on finding other people to work with as models. rotoscoping and photography will all take place, hopefully.

a video is also about to be in the making, so i have that to look forward to. my good friend siri is helping me with that, and i never get to work with that type of medium, so i'm very excited on that topic.

more to come soon.

hot hot heat.

i'm starting to build my class list for the fall semester! i'll have art history, english, drawing, and then i get to choose my top three choices for electives. i'm really thinking about trying photography-- i want to get a better feel for my camera. also, picking up photography could be really helpful for mixed-media illustration projects! i also can't wait to pick up yoga classes again. i'm so excited.

it's eighty degrees today, and i just took a break from school planning to frolic around in the sun. now it's time to buckle down and begin setting up a page to sell my clothes! i'm opening an ebay store in less than a couple of weeks-- i'll link it once it's running-- and i'm using the money for savings and also to build my college wardrobe. i already have quite enough shoes, and i'll eventually be selling a pair of suede jeffrey campbells along with other wedges, sweaters, shorts, skirts, dresses, shirts... everything! i'm just about to get some leggings and some creepers in the mail, but i'm really cutting down on spending for now, especially since there are so many good vintage shops in the bay area that i'll hit up... with great self-control, of course.

anyway, here's my outfit for today. chiffon and shorts for the heat.

sunglasses, ragstock / bolo tie, junk shop / button-down, h&m / shorts, ragstock / boots, gift.
