hi, folks!

i'm going to take a moment to apologize for the horrendously long amount of time i've taken off from this blog. i guess, at the bottom of it all, i've just been self-consious and sad, and it's affected my work in a really negative way. i'm trying to get back into the swing of things, so posts should be more regular now.

i spent the day today driving out to see some nature with my parents and my dog, and before the sun set, i snapped some quick shots out in a nearby neighborhood of what i wore today. the past couple of days have seen wisconsin's first actually hot days of the year, and i'm so grateful. i thrive on that. i still need to get back to dressing in a way that makes me happy, though-- my body's changed a little, and it's made me uncomfortable with most of my clothes, so i have to revamp how i think.

i'm listening to a lot of vampire weekend as of late, to match the weather and also because i have tickets to see them at the end of summer, so here's a little of their new stuff to tide over until next time!

fashion/music/lifestyle.

as some of you might have noticed, i almost always close my entries with a little bit of music. i always listen to music when i write my blog. i almost always listen to music when i get dressed.

are people's individual styles influenced by the music they listen to on a daily basis? a weekly basis? or ever?

when i chose my outfit for today, i had nineties hip hop in mind. i actually woke up with the notorious b.i.g.'s hypnotize playing on repeat in my head, and i knew my day was going to be filled with high-waisted things, beanies, my trusty sneakers, and, you know... bling. i opted out of any acid washed denim jackets, bedazzled back pockets, and other mall attire in favor of a more sophisticated look, nodding towards biggie's flashy ways with a pendant and gold tank. i streamlined everything with two-tone tights, and an outfit was born.

tank, t.j.maxx / pendant, thrifted and modern/ skirt, ragstock / tights, ebay / wedges, deena & ozzy

this happens all the time, and i think that's a reason why my personal style changes between days. if i listen to some punk, i might throw on some creepers, and if it's ska, they'll probably be black and white. if i listen to dark electro, i might choose black milk leggings and a loose tank with deep armholes, something suitable for hula hooping. if i listen to cutesy indie music with harmonicas and ukeleles and some lilting girlish vocals, i'm probably going to dress like i came out of a pastel unicorn rainbow cloud... with a couple of studs and spikes, of course, because i am who i am.

or i might just throw all of that out the window because i don't follow my own silly fashion rules. but mainly, i get a lot of influence from music. does everyone else get dressed with music? music plays in stores, at fashion shows, and people get dressed up for music.

so what's the deal, everyone? how does music play a part in your fashion life?

till next time,

it's a birthday kind of day!

so, trends.

i haven't been keeping up much on trends and runways because i've needed to get away from it all. everything was starting to seem so cliche and cluttered into little bunches of If You're This Type Of Person You'll Wear This Trend This Season. i've seen the body chains, the peplum, the mirrored prints, the spikes, the studs-- Heavy Metal, yes, it's been done by dozens of blogs-- the dip dying, the emphasized shirt collars, the ankle-strap shoes, and more. when a girl is involved in the fashion blogosphere, she can't help but notice these things at least a little bit. in fact, i've been dragged into nearly buying a structured peplum dress, a mirrored-print skirt, and oh-so-many body chains, but i've held back because i'm trying to keep my college wardrobe simple and chic with a tiny drop of a gothic twist.

it might be argued that i have spiked jewelry, studded flats, a leather collar, and a spiked-collar button-down, and i'm therefore following trends, which i suppose is true, but mainly, it's just been easier for me this season to find pieces that fit my fancy. coming from a youth of dressing like a mix of seventies punk, nineties grunge, and new-age goth, i'm naturally drawn towards the harsh, eclectic mix that happens to be currently considered fashionable.

i do, however, have pieces that i feel are timeless to the outside fashion world-- in particular, printed black milk leggings. i nearly have a pair for every day of the week, although my next purchase will hopefully be of a matte black catsuit if not a pair of alphonse mucha leggings.

for today, i dressed in one of my latest pairs of black milk legwear, a garment printed with gustav klimt's The Kiss, or Der Kuss, in honor of the artist's one-hundred-fiftieth birthday.
